Tracks on Loop : Shore Leave

Five great tracks to help you kickstart your weekend

This weekend in London I am donning my sailor's hat and heading out to what looks set to be an amazing party - Shore Leave - in my favourite venue in London, the Old Vic Tunnels. If you've never been then you really should, why not come and join us for a night of maritime fun?

Happy weekend everyone!

Tracks on Loop : Open House Weekend

Five great tracks to help you kickstart your weekend

This weekend in London is Open House Weekend. Open House is amazing, it's basically when a whole bunch of private or paying venues open their doors to the public and you can go on tours and visit them. Some need to be booked before hand but if you have no bookings then never fear, there is still a whole heap of venues that you can visit just by turning up on the day. Check out their website for more details.

Happy Weekend!

Tracks on Loop : Almost Over

I never thought I would be sad to see the back of the Olympics, but I have to admit that I am genuinely  not looking forward to it all being over.

Living in Olympic London has been amazing, and hopefully we have managed to prove a few stereotypes of Great Britain to be untrue (read : it doesn't rain all the time and we don't all have bad teeth). But it's not all over yet, we have the Paralympics yet to come and then life in London will slowly return to normal.

Have a great weekend folks!

Artist Showcase : 2012 Games Coverage by Charis Tsevis

Hey folks! We are now back from our glorious mini-break in Sicily where we ate far too many pizzas and over indulged in ice-cream in Brioche.

Arriving back in London, I have to admit the first thing I did was to put on the BBC to check how Murray was faring against Federer, (a Brit v. a Swiss being quite a big thing in our household), and I was thrilled to see him win his first gold medal.

You see, I don't normally care much for the olympics, being maybe even on the other side of the fence of 'oh god not this again', but this year things have changed. I have found myself watching almost every event, and when I can't watch, I listen to the radio. And not only am I actually watching the olympics, but I'm actually enjoying them! Who'd have thought?! Well, I am certainly enjoying most sports, but a, still totally baffled by Dressage...

Anyway, I'm interested to see if it is just the London fever getting to me, or if I have been forever converted into an Olympic mega-fan, but for that we are going to have to wait until Rio 2016.

In the mean time, take a look at these fantastic illustrations for Yahoo! by the great Greek artist Charis Tsevis, who you might recognise from this great series.

Tracks on Loop : It's the Olympics!

So that's it, after years of preparation and anticipation the Olympics are finally due to start tonight. In true British style, after having a week of the hottest weather so far this year, today when billions of people will be watching the UK it has decided to rain.

We will be ensconced in a pub somewhere in Camden watching it all on a TV, and then maybe heading up to Primrose Hill to watch the fireworks.

Happy weekend peeps!

Photography : London by Talos Buccellati

As London is being overtaken by tourists and athletes from all over the world, Londerers themselves are running to the hills to try and get away from it all.

I will be heading off to Italy for a long weekend next week, but until then I will try to survive London by looking at this beautiful series of photographs by italian photographer Talos Buccellati.

What I love about these photos is that they don't show the red bus, big ben and bobby London that is so common, but instead a rather dark and vulnerable side to this wonderful city.

You can see more of Talos's work here.

Tracks on Loop : River Festivals and BBQs

This week in the UK we got the great news that the pesky jet stream that has been causing all this lousy weather is finally going to shift, hopefully meaning the return of the much missed sunshine.

Sunshine in London on a Saturday can only mean one thing, it's time for a Barbie, I'm thinking giant hot-dogs, juicy hamburgers and sticky ribs, maybe with some marshmallows to round it all off, washed down with lashings of Pimms, bien sur.

Have a great weekend folks!

Tracks On Loop : Freaky Friday

Uh-oh! Today is Friday 13th and you know what that means! Well... absolutely nothing apart from that it's very nearly the weekend.

This weekend in London is the Regent's canal festival, tomorrow Ricard are holding a Garden party to celebrate Bastille day, and of course there are only 14 more days left until the Olympics! Eek!

Happy Weekend!

PS. Camdenites, has anyone checked out Camden Beach over at the Roundhouse yet?

Remember Walk off the Earth? The guys that did a cover of Gotye with all of them on one guitar? Well they're back with this great little summer ditty, enjoy!

Tracks on Loop : Accidents and Flower Shows

This weekend my brother was due to come and stay with us (he had snapped up tickets to Bloc 2012) but plans have changed and he will be staying wrapped up warm in bed after having a nasty run in with a metal plant pot (way worse than it sounds). Get well soon Nick, I hope you feel better!

This means that my weekend is now wide open, so maybe I will catch a movie at one of the pop-up cinemas around London or maybe head over to the Hampton Flower Show that actually looks pretty spectacular, or maybe I'll just stay indoors seeing the awful weather...

Happy weekend everyone!

Tracks on Loop : There Will be Sun

This weekend in London it looks as though we are finally getting a bit of sunshine. If you're looking for things to do outside then why not head over to 'A Summer Affair' over at the London Fields Brewery, or if you're feeling a tad sporty then why not test your Ping Pong skills on one of the free tables that is popping up over London from today.

Happy weekend, peeps!

And as an extra bonus track this week, check out the official London Olympics 2012 song Survivor by Muse. Personally, I'm not a fan, sounds very Queen-esque but without any of the catchy melodies. Maybe it's a grower... What do you think?

Tracks On Loop : The Days Are Getting Shorter

So with the summer solstice just gone the days are now officially getting shorter, which is always a very depressing thought. Never fear though, because as always we have some amazing events to get us through the rainy summer here in London.

Tracks on Loop : And breathe...

I have been having a lot of busy weekends lately, with trips to Switzerland, underground parties and of course the Jubilee, so this weekend I am happy to say that I will be escaping London and heading oop North for a little R & R. Happy weekend everyone!

Tracks on Loop : D-Day Weekend

After the Jubilee, this weekend in London is going to seem quiet no matter what we do. Having said that, there are still a number of very cool events going on in the capital this weekend including a special d-day Blitz party, the British Biscuit Festival (seriously) and the Spitalfields Music Summer Festival. Have a great weekend!
